We are celebrating the love of Lacey and Casey, a sweet couple who chose to have an intimate wedding at Highgrove Estate. Elopements, micro weddings, and luxury micro weddings have become quite popular as an alternative to larger gatherings in the midst of all the changes in the world. Despite however different your celebration may look from what you had originally envisioned, Highgrove is committed to providing you with so much more than you could have ever dreamed of for your wedding day.

Lacey and Casey’s love story began through mutual friends. Casey was immediately drawn to Lacey’s knowledgeable, strong-willed, and considerate personality, while Lacey noticed how kind, fun, and compassionate Casey is. Together, the two complement each other and, one night after a romantic dinner of sushi, on a cobblestone path underneath an archway, Casey asked her to be his forever.

Lacey and Casey had originally planned for a wedding at the end of March with 114 guests, but COVID-19 had other plans. When the state shut down bars and restaurants, their original venue had to close as well, leaving the couple without a venue or a big celebration as anticipated.

However, the two were determined that, no matter the location, they would still be married as long as their parents and siblings could be in attendance. Through personal connections, coincidences, and a prayer group, the couple was put in touch with Highgrove Estate, and they realized they could still have an intimate gathering—they described this as “the best wedding gift they could have received.”

Keeping within the 10-person gathering limit, Lacey, Casey, and their families gathered at Highgrove Estate for a beautiful, heartfelt celebration. Angela at Oak and Dahlia lined the pergola and patio with gorgeous florals consisting of bright pinks, deep burgundies, and complimenting shades of white and peach.

Lacey did her hair and makeup at her apartment, then shared a special moment of putting on her dress with her mom in the Bridal Suite of Highgrove. Lacey descended down the spiral staircase towards her father and tears filled his eyes: a moment she will never forget. When they were ready, her father walked her down the aisle and she joined hands with her soon-to-be-husband underneath the chandelier hung from the chestnut-stained pergola before Casey’s brother, Cale, sentimentally officiated their ceremony.

The family gathered after the ceremony to take memorable photos around the property overlooking Lake Laurel in unseasonably warm weather without a cloud in the sky; Autumn Harrison Photography captured every genuine moment of the day. The newly-joined families toasted over champagne and shared in the overwhelming moments of joy.

When asked to reflect on their wedding day, the couple said,

“It was not what we planned, and we are very sad about that. We had invested a lot of time and energy into building our original wedding. We wanted to celebrate with our loved ones.

“But it was perfect, boiled down into everything that was actually important about that day. The intimacy of the ceremony couldn’t be replicated. It was really beautiful in so many ways.”

Lacey continued on to reflect how removing the audience of their ceremony actually allowed her to connect with her husband in a very real and emotional way that may not have happened in a larger setting because the nerves were nonexistent in this intimate group.

With only eight of us, we were able to have undivided attention on the people who matter most.”

The two agreed that they are content with the way their wedding panned out: the special, joyful day was more than enough for their family. While they may consider some sort of anniversary party, the intimate gathering on their wedding day was magical and more meaningful than they could have imagined.

While the two wish they could have had all of their loved ones present, they did record the ceremony. Given the popularity of Zoom-streaming, it is possible to incorporate your guests, even if they can’t be there physically.

Although they could not be present, her matron of honor and husband got dressed up in their outfits and recorded a sweet congratulatory video filled with well-wishes, along with her ceremony reading, to play on their big day. Lacey DIY’ed many of her elements for her original reception, and, though many were not able to be incorporated, her photographer did capture her stunning invitations which Lacey also designed herself.

Overall, Lacey and Casey chose to focus on what mattered most: the love the two of them share. If your wedding has been affected by COVID-19, we invite you to discover our elopement, micro wedding, and luxury micro wedding packages at Highgrove Estate. At Highgrove, we will help you navigate through these times, whether you choose a large or small gathering. Our promise to you is that we will create memories that last a lifetime, one couple at a time, through every circumstance.

By now, you’ve probably heard all of these terms thrown around, and you may be feeling a bit overwhelmed and confused as to what they all mean. You also know that you don’t want to put your marriage on hold, but you’re not quite sure how to proceed with planning and processing.

We are in the midst of many changes, especially when it comes to wedding celebrations. Here at Highgrove, we hope to encourage you that change is not always a bad thing. We are dedicated to providing you and your loved ones with the most beautiful day, even if it looks a little different than you had originally anticipated.

The memories made from small, intimate ceremonies and celebrations might just be more incredible than you could have ever imagined. While plans may change, love remains. Des and Ty are the perfect testament to this and we invite you to continue reading for a glimpse at their story of hope.

Gathered with thirteen of their closest family members and friends, Des and Ty made their promises of love to each other during their intimate ceremony on a perfect day in May. The couple had originally planned on getting married at their church in Downtown Raleigh, but when COVID-19 hit, their plans quickly changed. As the two had met when they were just 16 years old, he fell in love with her kind, wise, and selfless personality, and she with his goofy, caring, and intelligent character. They knew they did not want to wait to begin the rest of their lives and were not going to let the pandemic put a pause on their love.

The two connected with Highgrove Estate and realized that they could still celebrate their love and have their dream day at our venue. Standing hand in hand underneath the chestnut-stained pergola overlooking Lake Laurel, in perfect, sunny, 70-degree weather, the sun beamed down through the glass chandelier on the couple as if to reflect the beauty of their new marriage.

In a gorgeous lace gown, Des carried a beautiful bouquet arranged by family friend Dave Duty, and the warm light brought out the deep red, pink, and peach hues of the florals in her hair and those placed in our urns beneath the pergola. John Schlichter captured the day so that the couple can have tangible memories and share with those whom were not present.

While it was different than they had originally planned, there were so many beautiful moments that otherwise would not have happened under normal circumstances. The couple and family reflected how they were able to simply be in the moment with each other, without feeling rushed or hurried. In fact, one of Des’ favorite moments of the evening was having the flexibility to walk down the aisle when she was ready. In contrast with a large wedding, she was able to share a few extra moments with her father and walk towards love when the moment was just right. No fancy cues or hurried moments, but instead a chance to soak it all in. Des’ dad officiated and Ty ended the ceremony by singing a song to his new bride.

After the ceremony, the family gathered on the side patio with the cozy fireplace as a backdrop for an intimate dinner together. This turned out to be significantly more special and greater than they could have imagined—they were all able to be truly present and intentional in conversation with each other and, as Des reflected, “one united family rather than feeling the pressure to go around and speak to all the guests. Just the extra exposure and closeness to family was so special.” Des’ mom was grateful for the extra time she and her daughter were able to share together, which they may not have had in a larger setting.

The new couple had a chance to spend quiet moments dancing together on our 7-acre property, and father-daughter and mother-son dances were shared on our patio. The family ended the night on a sweet note with cake and cupcakes by the Cupcake Shoppe. Des’ older brother Jordan captured the entire night on video so that they and their friends could all relive the celebration. He thoughtfully composed a recording of special messages given by friends for the couple to watch later—including a post-game style interview by Des’ dad!

The only thing that the couple wished could have been different were for a few more friends and relatives (such as their grandparents) to be there with them. However, their family got creative and their grandparents did a drive-through wave after the ceremony—Ty’s grandfather even made a surprise trumpet performance!

When asked what advice or encouragement the couple would give to others experiencing this difficult situation, they responded,

“It’s all about the people around you. When it’s clear that they are there to support you and make your day special, it will turn out perfect no matter how many are there in the end. You have to give yourself time to mourn the loss of the day you imagined so that you can be excited for what you get to experience.”

Des and Ty’s day was truly about family and centered on love. So easily we can get caught up in the stresses of life, but this was an opportunity to slow down and focus on the heart of it all.

At Highgrove, we understand how difficult it is when your plans have to change. We promise to help you have the best day you could possibly dream of, even if it looks a little different in the end. After all, it really is all about your love and we are determined to celebrate that no matter what. Whether you choose to have a larger party later or are content with your intimate gathering, we promise to make this one of the greatest moments of your life.

In our next blog post, we’ll dive more in depth about our elopement, microwedding, and luxury microwedding options available so that you, too, can still experience the most beautiful day. We invite you to contact us if you are interested in learning more about the beauty of an intimate gathering at Highgrove Estate.

On a sunny, temperate day in February, Virginia and Stephen were married under the captivating pergola arches at Highgrove Estate. This blog is quite a special one for us as it features two of our very own. Stephen joined the team during their engagement and Virginia has been a significant part of Highgrove for 11 seasons! Highgrove was finally able to serve the couple and give them the dream wedding day they so selflessly helped others achieve for so many years.

Virginia and her fiancé, Stephen, met in 2017 at their home church in Raleigh. The two built a strong friendship and, when the timing was perfect, that friendship blossomed into a beautiful relationship. After reminiscing on their memories together, Stephen proposed to Virginia around their one-year anniversary, with tealights illuminating their surroundings.

Virginia and Stephen knew they wanted to display their joy for life and love for their families in their wedding celebration. Our preferred florist vendor, Donna from FLOWERS ON BROAD STREET, described the vision and style as “earthy and eclectic.” The two intertwined their personalities and interests and executed this through unique tones of Prussian blues, burnt oranges, and rustic greenery complimented by pheasant feathers and antler sheds donated by Stephen’s father. CE RENTALS completed the look with matching linens. The couple showcased their heritages by providing their guests favors of her family’s homemade Eastern NC barbecue sauce and his family’s zucchini relish.

Virginia was stunning in her gown from BHLDN and her bridal look was adorned with sentimental treasures and keepsakes. Not only was her engagement ring made using the center stone of his grandmother’s wedding ring, but her veil was trimmed with the lace from her mother’s wedding gown and her necklace was made from cufflinks from her mother’s great aunt. The Bible she carried down the aisle was her grandfather’s that he took to war, later to be carried by his bride down the aisle, followed by her mother and sister. HEATHER WEBSTER PHOTOGRAPHY was there to capture every special detail.

The guests were greeted with welcome cider and dined on shrimp + grits, mini charcuterie boards and pork sliders–featuring the families’ zucchini relish and barbecue sauce–during cocktail hour.

DINNER SELECTIONS

Baby Greens with seasonal fruit, spiced candied almonds, and sherry Dijon vinaigrette

Honey Balsamic Chicken with tomatoes, mushrooms, and peppers

Beef Short Ribs braised in a rich cabernet sauce

White Mushroom and Truffle Oil Risotto

Green Beans Almandine

For dessert, a unique peanut butter chocolate and coffee white chocolate cake was designed to match the décor by our talented in-house pastry chef, Heather from BESTOW BAKED GOODS.

The night ended with dancing and laughter, just as the couple imagined. Virginia and her father opened the floor with a dance-off and Frankie Hagan from ISLAND VIDEO + SOUND  kept the dancing going all night long until it was time for their shimmering sparkler sendoff. The day was truly magical, especially when getting married at a place that the couple has called home for so long. We are so honored that we could provide Virginia + Stephen their dream day.

There’s so much to consider when selecting the perfect wedding venue for your special day. From flower settings, to cake design, to possible color schemes, and even down to what you’ll be wearing, it’s no wonder wedding planning can become such a stressful affair.  This, however, is why Highgrove Estate exists.

Planning Your Wedding At Highgrove Estate

Each year, we plan a photoshoot to allow couples and their families to get a closer look at all of the amazing possibilities that come with planning a wedding at Highgrove Estate. For this shoot, we love using our in-house vendors, who can also be found on the preferred vendors list that is given to each of our couples at the beginning of their wedding planning process.  These incredible vendors always help put together some of the most spectacular visuals for our couples and viewers to enjoy.

This year, Rachel Kendrick, our very own Sales Director, who introduces each and every couple to Highgrove Estate, was our model. Rachel has been with Highgrove Estate for a little over 5 years, and in the summer of 2015, Rachel met with the President and Owner, Vicky Ismail, with the plans to envision a new look and feel for Highgrove Estate. This of course lead to a complete remodel of the house, ballroom, and grounds in 2016.

While Oak City Bridal, Emma Katzka Bridal, and The Bardot helped Rachel transform into a beautiful bride, the creative team at Flowers On Broad Street transformed the grounds with their amazing floral talents.  Then to top everything off, we had the incredible Rachel Red Photography deliver some of the most dreamy and magical shots ever.

The ethereal, bohemian inspired vibe of this shoot is what we believe will be on trend for many of the weddings we see in 2020. Luckily, with the natural beauty of our estate, there’s very little that has to be done when decorating the property, so you can choose to be as over the top, or as minimalistic as you’d like, with your floral design.

Situated on over 7 acres of land, just outside Raleigh, NC, our grounds are full of beautiful views, stunning backdrops, and plenty of magical places to take photos, in order to create memories that last a lifetime. The interior of the estate is fully furnished, and has several well-appointed rooms that are perfect for photos and time with your family and friends prior to the ceremony.

The 18” foot pergola is a newer addition to Highgrove Estate, and was designed to be the ideal location for our couples to exchange vows. The grand chandelier that hangs from its beams was custom ordered and created for exterior use. It will continue to gleam regardless of the elements.

Each and every detail of your day will be carefully planned here. From the welcome cocktails to the farewell sparkler send off, Highgrove Estate ensures that each and every wedding will be an absolute dream come true.

Ready to take a tour? You can schedule a visit here.

In early September, Highgrove Estate had the distinct pleasure of hosting a few of our very own for a spectacular wedding. Chuck and Diane Scro, long-time managers with our venue, celebrated the marriage of their daughter, Kim, and new son-in-law, Truman. It was a unique experience for not only the Mother and Father of the bride, but also for each of the Highgrove staff to be involved in such a special event.

Our sweet friend and Mother of the Bride tearfully described the day as “Magical.” Upon seeing Donna’s finished floral designs and Kim’s vision come to life, both Diane and Chuck were overwhelmed.

“All we had to do was focus on Kim & Truman and our guests. Every detail was perfect… Our guests were blown away by the beauty of the venue, gorgeous flowers, service of the staff and delicious food. They only thing we would change is that it ended too soon! We are very grateful to the Highgrove Estate staff and all they did to make it such a perfect, stress-free day!”

– Diane Scro, Mother of the Bride

Stress-free is the perfect way to describe Kim and Truman’s day. From the time they arrived at the venue until their sparkler send off, these two were beaming ear to ear, absolutely present and excited for the day and their future together.

Kim envisioned a natural, earthy design for her wedding day and Flowers on Broad Street blew it out of the water! Donna took Kim’s vision and developed it into what she called a “Transitional Autumnal” theme. It perfectly married the lushness of late summer with the warmth and mood of the approaching fall. In Donna’s own words “I knew we had to do something super special for such a special girl,” and with the help of her team, she designed decor like nothing Highgrove has ever seen.

We were so honored to help create this beautiful day for our friends and their loved ones. We have included photos and even a sample of their menu below. Scroll down to experience all of the beauty and emotion of their wedding day captured by Aly Sprecher Creative.

Gabby + Jason were picture perfect on their wedding day. Surrounded by friends and family, they said “I do” to forever and Rachel Red Photography was there to capture every beautiful moment.

“Gabby and Jason were wonderful to work with because of how much they simply trusted me. I always say that the best weddings are made when a couple surrounds themselves with vendors they trust and then just let them go wild. This was definitely my experience with them! Gabby is also a truly kind hearted person and kept her focus on guest experience. My favorite moment of the day was when their sweet little girl ducked under Gabby’s veil as if she was hiding in her very fancy princess fort. So sweet!”

Rachel Red Photography is no stranger to Highgrove Estate. She was the brilliant photographer for our styled shoot turned surprise engagement shoot! Rachel has also been the photographer for other weddings and styled shoots at Highgrove and had a few ideas to share about her favorite locations. “Highgrove is full of amazing locations and is a truly easy place to shoot, even if it rains. The pergola where cocktail hour is typically held was a great backup location for wedding party photos when we were dealing with not-so-great weather. My favorite room in the house is the room with all the mirrors. It reminds me of an Italian moody parlor and the color scheme makes for timeless bridal images.”

Enjoy browsing through Gabby + Jason’s wedding day photos below. We have included their menu selections and as a BONUS, a video by Life Stage Films and a few of Gabby’s bridal portraits. Cheers!

We recently had the privilege of hosting Marie, from Southern Bride and Groom Magazine at one of our private tastings for our Fall and Winter couples. We had so much fun giving her the grand tour of the house and expansive grounds and an inside look at what it’s like to be a Highgrove Estate couple.

Shortly after Marie’s visit, we were featured on their blog you see below highlighting Ben + Sarah’s wedding day and introducing Highgrove Estate to the Southern Bride and Groom community. They describe every detail so beautifully and we are so honored to be featured!

Please enjoy Southern Bride and Groom’s beautiful highlight of our beloved venue by clicking here or the post below.

Jennifer and Jonathan were married on the most perfect day in March at Highgrove Estate and we were beyond thrilled to be a part of their beautiful love story.

With friends and family gathered from all over the world, their entire day felt so family centered. And this crowd knew what to do on the dance floor! Friends and family of all ages remained on the dance floor the entire evening dancing the night away.

As seen in the photos below, Jennifer and Jonathan’s love for each other is so tangible. Even after a tearful first look, Jonathan couldn’t hold back the tears when Jennifer made her way down the aisle. We felt so privileged to be a part of creating and celebrating their special day with them.

One of our favorite moments of the night was seeing their guests enjoy the S’mores station. You can enjoy the photos of this ‘sweet’ moment and all of the other amazing moments of the day below.

Victoria and Nick’s wedding day was a modern black-tie event to remember. Their mix of bright whites, floral and gold accents created an elegant, yet modern Summer wedding design that we can not seem to get enough of!

What an absolute joy it was to host Victoria and Nick’s wedding day. This couple is as fun as they are sweet.

Highgrove Estate’s event coordinator, Angela, had a lot to say about the glowing couple. “Honestly, they were both so sweet and easy to work with and were both so joyful on their wedding day, which was so wonderful to be a part of.” Fun fact about Victoria and Angela: Angela taught Victoria in Middle School. “It was really special to get to see her grown-up and some of my other students as well that were in the wedding party.”

From the gorgeous floral design to the handmade acrylic invitations, every detail was so thoughtful and unique to their personality as a couple. The amazing installations by Green House Pickers Sisters paired with the gorgeous florals by Blossom Bay Design made for a wedding day that was stunning from beginning to end.
