On a sunny, temperate day in February, Virginia and Stephen were married under the captivating pergola arches at Highgrove Estate. This blog is quite a special one for us as it features two of our very own. Stephen joined the team during their engagement and Virginia has been a significant part of Highgrove for 11 seasons! Highgrove was finally able to serve the couple and give them the dream wedding day they so selflessly helped others achieve for so many years.
Virginia and her fiancé, Stephen, met in 2017 at their home church in Raleigh. The two built a strong friendship and, when the timing was perfect, that friendship blossomed into a beautiful relationship. After reminiscing on their memories together, Stephen proposed to Virginia around their one-year anniversary, with tealights illuminating their surroundings.
Virginia and Stephen knew they wanted to display their joy for life and love for their families in their wedding celebration. Our preferred florist vendor, Donna from FLOWERS ON BROAD STREET, described the vision and style as “earthy and eclectic.” The two intertwined their personalities and interests and executed this through unique tones of Prussian blues, burnt oranges, and rustic greenery complimented by pheasant feathers and antler sheds donated by Stephen’s father. CE RENTALS completed the look with matching linens. The couple showcased their heritages by providing their guests favors of her family’s homemade Eastern NC barbecue sauce and his family’s zucchini relish.
Virginia was stunning in her gown from BHLDN and her bridal look was adorned with sentimental treasures and keepsakes. Not only was her engagement ring made using the center stone of his grandmother’s wedding ring, but her veil was trimmed with the lace from her mother’s wedding gown and her necklace was made from cufflinks from her mother’s great aunt. The Bible she carried down the aisle was her grandfather’s that he took to war, later to be carried by his bride down the aisle, followed by her mother and sister. HEATHER WEBSTER PHOTOGRAPHY was there to capture every special detail.
The guests were greeted with welcome cider and dined on shrimp + grits, mini charcuterie boards and pork sliders–featuring the families’ zucchini relish and barbecue sauce–during cocktail hour.
Baby Greens with seasonal fruit, spiced candied almonds, and sherry Dijon vinaigrette
Honey Balsamic Chicken with tomatoes, mushrooms, and peppers
Beef Short Ribs braised in a rich cabernet sauce
White Mushroom and Truffle Oil Risotto
Green Beans Almandine
For dessert, a unique peanut butter chocolate and coffee white chocolate cake was designed to match the décor by our talented in-house pastry chef, Heather from BESTOW BAKED GOODS.
The night ended with dancing and laughter, just as the couple imagined. Virginia and her father opened the floor with a dance-off and Frankie Hagan from ISLAND VIDEO + SOUND kept the dancing going all night long until it was time for their shimmering sparkler sendoff. The day was truly magical, especially when getting married at a place that the couple has called home for so long. We are so honored that we could provide Virginia + Stephen their dream day.
